NOVI, MI — The City of Novi recently approved the engineering design phase for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 11 Mile Road, a key east-west route between Wixom Road and Beck Road, with construction expected to begin in the coming years. 

City officials say the project is necessary to address aging pavement and extend the long-term lifespan of the roadway, which was rated in need of significant improvement after recent evaluations. 

What the Project Includes

According to the official city documentation, the 11 Mile Road project consists of two main components:
• Road Rehabilitation — including milling and resurfacing between Wixom Road and just east of Wembley Drive.
• Full Reconstruction — complete reconstruction from just east of Wembley Drive to the western edge of the planned roundabout area near Beck Road, including full concrete pavement and upgraded infrastructure. 

Although earlier designs included a roundabout at the intersection of 11 Mile Road and Beck Road, that feature was removed due to timing constraints associated with federal funding. 

Official plans also call for upgrades to storm sewer systems along the corridor, which were identified as undersized during preliminary design work and contributed to the need for full reconstruction in some sections of the route. 

When Construction Will Start

While the design phase is already approved and underway, final construction scheduling will depend on continued engineering efforts and funding confirmation. City leaders anticipate that work could begin as early as Spring 2027, with prep work ongoing in the years prior.

Residents and commuters should expect temporary traffic modifications as the project moves forward, including lane shifts or closures during phases of reconstruction.
